Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday with a penalty kick that helped the South American country achieve a 4-3 victory over France.

The winning kick came during one of the most intense matches in soccer history, and was achieved after a 3-3 tie during extra time. Argentina finally won a showdown over their European rival with 4-2 in penalty kicks.

Lionel Messi scored twice during the final match, including a goal in the 108th minute that many thought could tie up the game.

But Mbappé also scored two goals in only two minutes apart in the 81st minute, tying the match. Shortly after that, Kylian Mbappé also scored a penalty kick during the 118th minute,

During the penalty kicks, Emiliano Martinez, Argentina’s goalie made a second-round stop and Aurélien Tchouaméni’s penalty kick went wide in the third round, changing the fate of the game.

Argentina’s victory gave Messi his first World Cup, but it may also be his last since he has said this will be his final championship game.
