Three women's float trip turned into a terrifying experience after they got too close to an alligator resting on a log in a Florida river.

The surprising encounter took place on the Ichetucknee River near Fort White last Friday, as the women were enjoying their float trip.

One of the women involved, Carole Chapuis, captured on video the moment when the river's current caused one of her friends, Jessica, to get close to the log on which the alligator was resting.

"He's hissing at her!" Chapuis shouted in the video posted on TikTok.

As the alligator stared at her, Jessica decided to hit another log with her foot in an attempt to move away from the large reptile.

"I've never seen a gator on Ichetucknee before!" the woman exclaimed.

Chapuis believed that the alligator was protecting its nest since "they normally go into the water to get away from humans."

The video has been viewed nearly 7 million times and has more than 13,000 comments. Some said they would never enter a Florida river out of caution, while others joked about the reptile's reaction.

"You always expect to see gators in Florida, and it's not even the ones you see that you have to worry about, it's the ones you don't," one user commented.

"The gator with a face like, 'why is Jessica being so dramatic?'" joked another.

"Floating anywhere in Florida is a hard NO," a third person said.
