Tragedy in South Florida: Plantation man accused of stabbing wife 28 times, son four times in double murder

A 40-year-old man is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his wife and two-year-old son

Prosecutors are accusing Jean Carlos Aponte of killing his wife, Sara Ashley Gama, 38, and their eldest son, Ethan Aponte, two years old, at the residence they shared in Plantation, Florida.

Aponte allegedly stabbed his wife 28 times before throwing his little son into the pool, after stabbing him four more times, according to a Plantation Police Department report.

The tragedy was discovered after Gama's father called 911 for help, discovering the woman covered in blood in the kitchen and Aponte unconscious in the bedroom, the document explains.

Officers quickly arrived at the family's residence on Northwest 97th Avenue but found an unexpected scene. The mother had visible stab wounds and cuts on her neck, while little Ethan Aponte lay lifeless in the backyard pool, submerged face down. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

So far ,the causes that led to the crime have not been revealed, but it investigators suspect the person responsible had an anger disorder.

In an exclusive Telemundo 51 interview with Aponte's ex-wife, whose name was kept anonymous for security reasons, revealed several signs of violence that she witnessed during her marriage to the detainee.

The woman said that the marriage initially seemed to be a fairy tale, but it soon turned into a nightmare when Aponte began to show increasingly aggressive and controlling behavior towards her.

She even stated that he was a victim of physical abuse that left scars on his body.

For his part, Jean Carlos Aponte faces charges of premeditated murder and without the right to bail, while the community asks for the maximum sentence after the brutal event, which has filled the news in recent hours in the North American region.
