The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 will be held on Monday, Feb. 27 in Paris, and is expected to start airing at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and will be available for viewing in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
The event is a celebratory moment for sports fans since the awards mark the first time fans will be able to attend in person since January 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic led to worldwide lockdowns.
Among the many world famous athletes competing are Alex Morgan, Alexia Putellas, Beth Mead, Carlo Ancelotti, Karima Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Scaloni and Pep Guardiola.
Benzema was awarded the Ballon d’Or for his achievements from 2021-2022, and many are eagerly anticipating the possibility he will win another award.
Others are focused on the World Cup successes of Mbappé, Messi and Putellas.
The awards have become widely celebrated and mark a major event for both athletes and FIFA fans all over the world.
“I’m lost for words, which doesn’t happen often,” Alexia Putellas said when she won in 2021. “I just keep thinking about my childhood and all my dreams, and all the hard work that my family have put into me, because they allowed me to do my job, my profession.”
Nominees for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 were selected by two panels, one for men’s soccer and the other for women’s.
The awards will ultimately be chosen in a voting process after ballots are cast by a hybrid of national team captains and coaches as well as members of the media and public.
Voting for the general public closed on Feb. 3, but fans can still vote for the winner of the Best FIFA Fan Award until Sunday, Feb. 26—one day before the official ceremonial kickoff.
This year’s Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 will be seventh edition after it began in 2016 with the objective of reviving the FIFA World Player Gala.
