Buckingham Palace first announced the queen’s deteriorating condition through a statement issued on September 8 at around 12:35 p.m., around three hours before she passed away. The statement said her doctors were concerned about her health and were placing her under medical supervision.
After a grand funeral, the queen was placed in a tomb inside the King George VI Memorial Chapel at St. George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle.
The tomb is marked by a slab of hand-carved Belgian black marble. Inscribed on the ledger stone in brass letters inlays is the queen’s name alongside her husband’s, mother’s, and father’s names.
