Queen Elizabeth II, 95, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. However, Buckingham Palace confirmed that she only has mild symptoms comparable to a cold.

"She will continue to receive medical care and will follow all appropriate guidelines," the royal statement said. "The Royal Household has its own royal physicians, and the queen's doctors will be on hand to attend and monitor the head of state, and Professor Sir Huw Thomas, head of the Medical Household and physician to the queen, is expected to be in charge."

The sovereign was in contact with her son, Prince Charles, two days before he tested positive for COVID-19. The Palace reported that the queen would carry out "light duties" over the next week.

The news comes two weeks after the queen reached her historic Platinum Jubilee, celebrating 70 years on the throne on February 6.

The queen's office reported that she has received both doses of the vaccine, as well as the booster.

Queen Elizabeth II has participated in a few public events since the pandemic broke out. She has also canceled several events and spent a night in the hospital for observation. Since mid-October, she has been resting on doctor's orders after canceling a series of engagements.
