Federal authorities on Thursday reportedly arrested a Russian analyst who in 2016 gathered leads about possible links between Russia and then-GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, in the now discredited Steele Dossier.

The arrest of analyst Igor Danchenko is being reported by The New York Times, based on sources familiar with the matter.

The arrest is part of the special counsel inquiry led by John Durham, appointed by the Trump administration to scrutinize the so-called Russia collusion investigation.

The basis for the arrest and whether it was connected to the Democratic-funded opposition research was unclear Thursday morning.
