The Cuban playwright Yunior Garcia Aguilera, the promoter of the Civic March for Change on the Island, arrived in Spain on November 17 with his wife Dayana Prieto, reported Europa Press.
Spanish government sources confirmed to the media that Garcia Aguilera arrived in the country after requesting a tourist visa.
The Archipiélago group declared Garcia Aguilera and Prieto as missing since the morning of November 16.
The couple arrived on a commercial flight to Madrid “without it being clear for now what their future plans are,” reported Europa Press.
Hours before this news spread, the Archipiélago group published that a member went to their home on Tuesday and a relative of Prieto’s told him that he did not know their whereabouts since the morning of November 16.
“Another one of our collaborator has just returned from Yunior Garcia’s home where he was received by a relative of Dayana Prieto, who confirmed that he has not known the whereabouts of Dayana and Yunior since the morning of this November 16,” the Archipiélago group posted on Facebook.
García Aguilera fue víctima de un fuerte operativo policial y un acto de repudio en los alrededores de su vivienda en La Habana el 14 de noviembre, día que él había anunciado que saldría a marchar en solitario.
Garcia Aguilera was a victim of a heavy police operation and an act of repudiation around his home in Havana on November 14, the day he had announced that he would demonstrate alone for human rights and freedom of speech in Cuba.
Spanish diplomatic sources claimed that his departure from the country was “at his own request,” reported El Pais.
The Cuban regime said there was no agreement between Havana and Madrid to facilitate the activist’s departure from the island, according to EFE.
Aguilera has not made any statements to the press.
