Colombian superstar Maluma joins voice cast of Disney's "Encanto"

Colombian singer Maluma will voice Mariano in Disney’s upcoming animated film.

The Colombian singer Juan Luis Londoño Arias, better known as Maluma, will be voicing a character in Disney’s newest animated film “Encanto,” announced Walt Disney Animation Studios on Wednesday.

In this film dedicated to Colombian culture, the singer of “Hawaii” will interpret Mariano, the handsome suiter of Isabela, the protagonist’s sister.

Disney announced the collaboration with Maluma through a video showing scenes from the movie and a message from the Colombian singer. 

"I am very proud to be part of this beautiful story," said Maluma.

"I'm from Colombia and the story is about a Colombian family… It means a lot to me since I am passionate about sharing my country's cultural values and history worldwide," he added.

The Colombian singer also posted the video on social media, which went as far as getting 630,291 likes and 8,200 comments.

The new film "Encanto" is an animated musical fantasy story inspired by Colombia and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Animation Studios Motion Pictures.

“Encanto” will be directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush and co-directed by Charise Castro Smith. The film will feature songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The voice cast includes Latin artists such as Stephanie Beatriz, Maria Cecilia Botero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Carolina Gaitan, Diane Guerrero and Maluma.

The film is scheduled to premiere on November 24 of this year in U.S. theaters.
