She waited for the big 50 with her family and her son Manolo. In the pictures she posted on her Instagram she was seen dressed in a white suit with red and her blonde hair falling over her shoulders in front of a coconut cake. Cakes are her weakness, she once confessed.

She posted more images and videos in which she can be seen enjoying lunch and breakfast with other friends and her husband. Everything indicates that it was a weekend of total celebration and entertainment for the charismatic actress.

Sofia Vergara first appeared on Colombian television in 1989 in a commercial for a soft drink. Then came her successful television debut for Hispanic audiences in Florida as a hostess. From there, she jumped to Hollywood with minor roles in movies until landing in Modern Family, the series that catapulted her to stardom.

In addition to becoming one of the highest-paid actresses of the past decade, Sofia has won four Screen Actors Guild Awards. Additionally, she has been nominated several times for important awards that recognize the good work of actors in the United States.

"Sofia is still the same barranquillera she has always been," said one of her friends, Katya Gonzalez Ripoll, who described her birthday to the newspaper El Heraldo de Barranquilla. Gonzalez explained that neither fame nor money changed the woman who left the country like many of her compatriots, fleeing the violence of the 90's that cost the life of one of her brothers.

But not everything has been easy in Sofia's life. At the age of 28 she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, was treated and underwent surgery and she herself confessed a year ago on her social networks that she is a "survivor" of the disease.

She is currently married to American actor Joe Manganiello, but before her marriage she was engaged to businessman Nick Loeb. With Nick she even went to court over his use of her frozen embryos. A longer story.
