A man identified as Christian Camilo Rincón Díaz allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend Erika Aponte Lugo in a Bogotá shopping center on Sunday, in a case that has shaken all of Colombia.

The incident occurred on Mother's Day, in the Unicentro Norte shopping center, in the Usaquén neighborhood.

According to local reports, Rincón entered a pizzeria where Erika worked as assistant manager. After arguing with the woman, he pulled out a firearm and presumably shot her twice in the head, causing her immediate death.

In a desperate attempt, Rincón, who is employed by a security company, allegedly knelt down and shot himself in the head, causing injury to himself but not death.

When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found Rincón next to the victim. He was transferred to the Santa Fe Foundation where he is being treated under a reserved prognosis, according to information from local media.

Videos shared on social networks show the heartbreaking moment in which Rincón allegedly murdered Aponte. "He killed her, he killed her," a woman is heard screaming.

The camera continues to focus on the man, who was wearing a uniform with a blue jacket from the Mass Transportation System and a Group Seguridad S.A.S. card, while he walked from one side to the other. Suddenly, he drops to his knees, points himself in the head, and shoots himself.

According to the police, Aponte had told her that she wanted to end the relationship and that she would move from where they lived together, and Rincón went looking for her to discuss her decision. Apparently, this would not be the first time that the man sought out his partner at his workplace to argue.

People celebrating Mother's Day panicked and ran around looking for exits. Others stayed to see the bodies lying on the ground after the fatal shooting.
