The Golden State Warriors' return trip to the NBA Finals took longer than five games. They needed five games against the Dallas Mavericks, eliminating them 4-1 in the playoffs after Thursday's 120-110 victory at the Chase Center in San Francisco. But it also took two years for the Warriors to celebrate another Western Conference championship as the most successful dynasty of this century.

When Klay Thompson got hurt and Kevin Durant retired, both in the summer of 2019, the Warriors had the worst record in the NBA in 2020. That was so long ago—or so recently, depending on how you look at it. Now, after a 120-110 victory in Game 5 of the Western Finals, they made it again, ready to make history.

The Warriors took the lead in the very first half of the game when they took the second quarter with a spectacular series of 41-point shots to go to the break with a 17-point advantage. Although Dallas tried to react with a run of 14 straight points in the third period, Golden State finished them off with their old weapon: the three-pointers of the "Splash Brothers."

Klay Thompson was the offensive leader with 32 points, 8 of them from the perimeter, while Curry seconded him with 15 points, including a decisive three-pointer in the final minutes to keep Dallas from dreaming of a comeback.

Once again, the collective contribution was fundamental, with Andrew Wiggins getting a double-double of 18 units and ten rebounds, while Kevon Looney signed another one of 10 points and 18 rebounds. The center Green stepped up once again to score 17 points with nine assists. For Dallas, star Luka Doncic was limited to 28 points after signing games of 40 and 30 points in this series.

Now the Warriors are waiting for the winner of the Eastern Conference, which will be decided during the playoffs dominated by the Boston Celtics 3-2 over the Miami Heat. If Boston wins the Finals, they will head to San Francisco, but it will be in Miami’s heat if the Heat wins the finals.
