Los Angeles Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner tackled a protester after he ran onto the field during Monday night’s game with the San Francisco 49ers.

With less than a minute left in the first half of the game, a man protesting animal rights ran onto the field at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California carrying a pink flare, completely halting game time.

While the man was able to evade the stewards and security that were trying to stop him, he was not able to get away from the Rams’ defense.

Wagner and fellow teammate Takkarist McKinley saw the man coming toward them and planned their next move. As McKinley tried to grab the protester, Wagner tackled him as if he were in the middle of a game.

Security then moved in to escort the 32-year-old man off of the field.

“He looked like he wasn’t supposed to be on the field,” Wagner told reporters after the game. “I saw security was having a little problem – so I helped him out.”

Animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere claimed responsibility for the stunt. According to the organization, the protester was trying to raise awareness about “Right to Rescue,” an affiliate organization that looks to help “help the whistleblowers facing prison time for exposing factory farm abuses and rescuing suffering animals.”

According to sources, another protester also tried to disturb the game but was stopped before he could do anything.

The game continued after the incident, ending with a win for the 49ers.

“I saw Bobby Wagner taking somebody out,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “I thought that was kind of cool to see.
