Last week, a woman from India was arrested for carrying 22 snakes of different species and a chameleon in her hand luggage before boarding a plane.

The incident took place on April 30, when officials from Chennai Customs in India were examining the items of the passenger arriving from Malaysia.

The immigration inspection division of the city of Chennai (CBIC) reported on the strange finding on its Twitter account, where it posted photos and videos of some of the confiscated species.

"The CBIC intercepted a passenger who arrived from Kuala Lumpur on flight number AK13. During a checked baggage examination, 22 snakes and a chameleon were found and seized under CA, 1962 Wildlife Protection Act," the agency said.

Several reptiles can be seen crawling on the floor of Chennai International Airport in images shared by the CBIC, while others remain in containers sealed with tape.

The woman has not been identified and there are no details available regarding the charges she may face.
