A family of five was found dead on Wednesday morning inside a Phoenix home, police reported. The victims include a toddler and two infants.

The police discovered the victims in their north Phoenix home after they responded to a call from the family’s nanny at around 8 a.m. local time saying that she found an unresponsive person inside the home. The nanny added that there was a strong gas odor coming from the house.

Local firefighters and the Glendale Fire Hazardous Materials team arrived at the scene to “mitigate the danger,” according to police.

After firefighters arrived at the scene, they detected the presence of gas. However, they had to air out the home for hours before the police could enter the home.

Just after 12:30 p.m., police officers were finally able to enter the home. They found the bodies of two adults and three children with signs of trauma, Phoenix police said. It is still unclear how the family died.

The identities and details of the victims have not yet been released. Police have classified the incident as a “homicide” investigation.

A neighbor told 12News that the mother of the family was a local attorney and the husband was a line worker.

"They were completely wonderful neighbors," the neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said.

"What I want everybody to know [is] this was never a thought in our mind. We knew they were some marriage struggles, but not to this degree," the woman added.
