A key witness in former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation quietly pled guilty to helping funnel millions of dollars from the United Arab Emirates into the 2016 presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton after being convicted and sentenced for child pornography last year.
George Nader, a Lebanese American lobbyist, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in June 2020 after pleading guilty to bringing an underaged Czech boy to his Washington, D.C.-area home for sex, and for possessing child pornography.
What was not known publicly until recently was that Nader also pled guilty to a single count of “orchestrating a scheme to funnel over $3.5 million in foreign funds into the 2016 presidential election” with Ahmad “Andy” Khawaji, CEO of payment processor Allied Wallet, according to the Washington Examiner.
The Department of Justice revealed the new development in a December sentencing memo, which added that the two “did so to gain direct access to unsuspecting high-level political figures to further their professional endeavors: in the defendant’s case, out of a desire to lobby on behalf and advance the interests of his client, the government of the United Arab Emirates; in Khawaja’s case, in the hopes of securing political appointment in the future.”
Nader had a criminal record involving the sexual exploitation of underaged boys, even before the Mueller investigation discovered child pornography on his phone while looking for evidence connecting Trump to Russia.
Khawaja gave more than $4 million to Clinton and other Democrats' campaigns in 2016, but pivoted toward Republicans after Donald Trump’s victory. He was charged in Aug. 2020 with wire fraud along with three other executives at Allied Wallet and arrested in Lithuania, where he lives. It was last reported he posted bail in November.
The DOJ requested Nader serve 60 months for his part in concealing the source of Khawaja’s campaign contributions, on top of the 10-year sentence for his June 2020 child sexual exploitation charges.
