"Their brazen attempts to use January 6 to support radical election reform and changing the rules of the Senate to accomplish this goal, will not succeed,” Graham said in a statement

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham took to Twitter on Thursday to blast President Biden for delivering a speech that brazenly politicized last year’s Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Graham and other lawmakers were evacuated from the Capitol building in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021, after a crowd overwhelmed Capitol Police and entered the building in an attempt to temporarily halt Congress’ certification of the Electoral College vote, The Hill reported.

"What brazen politicization of January 6 by President Biden," Graham tweeted during the president’s speech. "I wonder if the Taliban who now rule Afghanistan with al-Qaeda elements present, contrary to President Biden’s beliefs, are allowing this speech to be carried?” he added referencing the Biden administration’s chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

But while the South Carolina senator has been a vocal critic of the events that transpired on Jan. 6 at the Capitol, he appears to have little patience for the Democrats’ use of the controversy to achieve political ends.

In a statement issued on Thursday morning, Graham said he "still cannot believe that a mob was able to take over the United States Capitol during such a pivotal moment."

“Those who defiled the Capitol on January 6 are being prosecuted, as they should be," he said. "I have consistently condemned the attack and have urged that those involved be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I hold the same views of those who attacked the federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon and committed other acts of violence throughout our nation."

In his statement Graham also turned his ire to rebuke President Biden and Vice President Harris for using Jan. 6 in order “to resurrect a failed presidency more than marking the anniversary of a dark day in American history.”

"Their brazen attempts to use January 6 to support radical election reform and changing the rules of the Senate to accomplish this goal, will not succeed,” he wrote. “The so-called voting rights acts they are pushing are a liberal Democrat federal takeover of our election systems which constitutionally reside with the states."
