Former President Donald Trump was announced Monday afternoon as the Republican nominee on the first day of the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, securing all 1,215 delegates needed.

Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, who has been acting as leader of the Florida delegation made the official announcement. Trump’s other son Donald Trump Jr., and his daughter Tiffany Trump stood beside their brother during the announcement.

“We hereby nominate every single one of [Florida's 125 delegates] for the greatest president that's ever lived, and that's Donald J. Trump, hereby declaring him the Republican nominee for president of the United States of America,” Eric Trump said from the convention floor, according to a report published by CBS News.

Trump’s nomination comes after his most significant competitor Nikki Haley released her share of the delegates to unite behind the former president. The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations received 95 delegates during the GOP primaries before she suspended her campaign.

Sen. J.D. Vance from Ohio was subsequently nominated as Donald Trump's running mate shortly after 5 p.m.
