Police are investigating a murder and suicide attempt that took place on Friday morning in Miami-Dade.

A 37-year-old woman was shot to death by her 40-year-old husband in their backyard while their two children were inside their home, according to the police.

After killing his wife, the man attempted suicide. The daughter reported the incident to the police.

“She was the one who called police,” said Miami-Dade police detective Alvaro Zabaleta. “It appears the husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself. The motive is unknown now, but it appears to be a murder and attempted suicide.”

When the police arrived, the woman was dead and the man was in critical condition. He was rushed to Kendall Regional Hospital.

“I heard a man yelling and then followed by another three or four gunshots and immediately it became silent and then I heard the children screaming for mommy,” said their neighbor Dimary Cordero.

The police said the shooting happened after midnight near 13300 block of Southwest 20 Street.

“Christmas comes around for you and me, it’s a wonderful time of year, for her it’s going to be the remembrance that her father killed her mother, a horrible time of year for that child,” said Pedro Rossie, another neighbor.
