A young South Florida teen-model and beautician who enjoyed notable popularity on Instagram lost her life at the hands of her ex-partner, who took his own life after the tragic event.
Kelvi Latrice McCray, 18, was having dinner in South Florida last Wednesday, and chatting animatedly with three friends over FaceTime when tragedy struck abruptly and unexpectedly. Keisean Woodrow Shaw, 19 years old and the victim's ex-boyfriend, appeared wielding a firearm, which he unloaded mercilessly on the young woman, fatally shooting her in the head, neck and back.
One of the eyewitnesses to the creepy scene via video call acted promptly and alerted the authorities, which led to rapid police intervention. However, for McCray it was too late. Shaw, for his part, took his own life after committing the crime, shooting himself in the head.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had ended their relationship of more than a year in January, although Shaw continued to reside at the victim's home because he had no other place to stay. Just one day before the attack, McCray had reported to police that her ex had threatened her at gunpoint, tried to strangle her, and held her against her will.
“It is heartbreaking that an 18-year-old girl was murdered as a result of domestic violence,” police spokesman Mike Jachles said in statements to CBS 12. An arrest warrant had already been filed for Shaw on charges that included aggravated assault with firearm and domestic assault by strangulation, according to the Sun-Sentinel newspaper, but the crime could not be prevented.
