Nikki Haley suspends presidential campaign after winning Vermont on Super Tuesday
The single victory was surprising but did little to increase her chances to secure the GOP primary nomination and stop former President Donald Trump. The former president emerged victorious in 11 other states on Super Tuesday.

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley suspended her presidential campaign despite winning an unexpected victory on Super Tuesday, in an upsetting against former President Donald Trump in Vermont.
That victory, however, did little to increase her chances to secure the GOP primary nomination and stop Trump. The former president emerged victorious in 11 other states on Super Tuesday.
Hours after the last polls closed in Alaska, Haley scheduled a 10 a.m. ET speech in her home state of South Carolina where she is expected to suspend her presidential campaign.
Haley aides and associates who spoke on the condition of anonymity to ABC News, confirmed Haley’s decision ahead of her announcement.
Haley’s run, she said from the beginning was symbolic, as she struggled to offer a choice to voters who were disenchanted with both President Biden and Trump.
She argued their policies were outdated and they were both too old to govern the U.S. and lead the free world. She has predicted that Trump will lose to Biden in November if he ends up as the GOP nominee.
Biden also easily cruised to victory around the country against only token candidates who opposed him, virtually guaranteeing a November 2024 rematch between him and Trump following the hotly contested 2020 presidential election.
