Alabama Sen. Katie Britt has been chosen as the Republican who will respond to President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech on Thursday.
“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to speak directly to my fellow Americans,” Britt wrote on the X social media platform. “I’ll outline the Republican vision to secure the American Dream for generations to come.”
Britt, 42, is the first woman in her state’s history to be elected to the U.S. Senate.
President Biden’s State of the Union address will be delivered in chambers during a much anticipated a primetime TV address that follows his recent trip to Brownsville to talk about the migrant surge and border crisis.
“I am pleased to announce with @LeaderMcConnell that @SenKatieBritt will be delivering the Republican response to the State of the Union address,” U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced Thursday.
“The American people will tune in as the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate turns the page on the oldest president in history.”
Britt is a University of Alabama graduate and mother of two. Her husband, Wesley Britt, is a former NFL football tackle who played for the San Diego Chargers.
