Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden, was indicted Thursday on three criminal counts connected with alleged possession of a firearm, federal court filings revealed.
The prosecutorial charges, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware came weeks after deal with federal prosecutors fell apart in court.
Hunter Biden, now 53, previously appeared in U.S. District Court in July with the expectation to plead guilty to misdemeanor criminal tax charges.
Lawyers for the son of the 46th president reached a separate pretrial diversion agreement with federal prosecutors on an unrelated firearms charge.
That plea agreement faded after the federal judge presiding over the case said she wasn’t satisfied by answers from Biden’s attorney and the Asst. U.S. Attorney about the details of the agreement.
Previously, in September, U.S. Attorney David Weiss, in charge of the federal prosecutorial district for Delaware, who was appointed special counsel in Hunter Biden’s case by the Justice Department, hinted that prosecutors would file an indictment by the end of the month.
The White House and a lawyer for Hunter Biden did not respond to an initial request for comments sought by CNBC.
