A car plowed into six migrant workers on Sunday outside of a Walmart in North Carolina, in what police suspect was an intentional attack on the individuals.
An unknown individual driving a mid-size, black SUV with a luggage rack drove his car into six migrant workers at around 1:17 p.m. local time outside of a Walmart located at 306 North Generals Blvd in Lincolnton, about 40 miles from Charlotte, according to the Lincolnton Police Department.
Lincolnton police said in a news release issued on Sunday that the assault with the vehicle appeared to be intentional. After reviewing surveillance videos, the police determined that the vehicle cut over a median into a grassy area between parking spaces, where the victims were standing.
The victims were transported to Atrium Health Lincoln to have their injuries treated. None of their injuries appeared to be life-threatening, said Maj. Brian R. Greene with the Lincolnton police.
“The motives of the suspect are still under investigation,” the police department said. None of the migrants appear to have any connection to the driver.
The driver of the vehicle remains at large. Authorities described the driver as an older white male.
“We’re trying to locate the individual that did this,” Major Greene said. “Right now, we don’t have a lot.”
Police are asking for the help of the public in identifying the man and locating the vehicle.
The Lincoln Police Department posted images of the SUV captured by surveillance cameras near the location of the incident on their Facebook page, with the hope that someone could locate the vehicle.
