Texas based Sen. Ted Cruz wants the House to investigate what he’s calling “direct evidence” of President Biden abusing power to unlawfully enrich himself and his son, Hunter, and wants to start moving impeachment proceedings forward “right now.”
On Friday's episode of "Verdict with Ted Cruz," co-host Ben Ferguson asked the lawyer turned senator at what point congressional investigations into the first son evolved into a call for impeachment against the president.
"It is right now," the Texas Republican answered.
Cruz’s call to action follows claims from U.S. government whistleblower Gary Shapley Jr. told Congress that the IRS had a WhatsApp message from the president’s son to Chinese businessman Henry Zhao in which Hunter said his father was involved in making foreign deals.
“Look, this WhatsApp is direct evidence of Joe Biden abusing his government power to enrich his son, and, assuming 10% for the big guy, to enrich himself,” Cruz, a former Texas Solicitor General said on his podcast.
In 2013, the Cuban American lawyer was elected to the U.S. Senate to represent the Lonestar state.
“Of course, the House needs to investigate it, but the stunning thing is what the IRS whistleblower says is [the Justice Department], Merrick Garland prevented an investigation even into this message.”
The U.S. Attorney General has denied that claim.
The new claims come amid Hunter’s guilty plea last week to a gun charge and two federal tax crimes. As part of his plea, the president’s son to avoid prison time.
