Brightline, the private high-speed rail company, on Wednesday announced the successful completion of its highly anticipated rail line connecting Miami and Orlando.
Spanning approximately 170 miles, the newly constructed Miami-to-Orlando rail line promises to revolutionize the way Floridians and visitors alike navigate between these major cities.
Brightline's high-speed trains promise to whisk passengers between the two destinations, significantly reducing travel times and traffic congestion. Trips between the two cities are planned to start later this year, with 16 daily round trips making hourly departures.
"We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the Miami-to-Orlando rail line," said Patrick Goddard, President of Brightline. "This project represents a major milestone in our mission to transform transportation in Florida. Our high-speed trains will provide a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, connecting these vibrant cities and enhancing accessibility for residents and tourists alike."
To celebrate the achievement, the mayors of Miami, Aventura, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Orlando—cities that are located along the train’s route—gathered at Orlando International Airport.
“This is a tremendous moment for our community. We have watched the construction progress, looking forward to the day when we would see trains pass us alongside the highway. That day is here,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, whose county is home to Orlando.
Before opening to the public, Brightline will test the high-speed trains along the corridor. The tests, which will continue through July, plan to get the trains to travel up to 110 miles per hour.
Currently, passengers can book trips on the high-speed rail starting on September 1 throughout the beginning of 2024 for a price starting at $79 for adults and $39 for kids. Premium fares, which include priority boarding and a dedicated lounge, start at $149.
According to Brightline, the construction of the rail line generated more than 10,000 jobs and had an impact of more than $6 billion for the state.
