The bodies of three rappers who went missing last month were found in the basement of an abandoned apartment complex in Highland Park, Michigan, on Thursday, according to the Michigan State Police.

The bodies were found at an apartment complex at McNichols and Log Cabin in Highland Park. Michigan State Police on Friday called the case a homicide investigation.

"Forensic Scientists from the MSP Lab are currently making their way into the building and are beginning to gather evidence.," MSP tweeted. "The building is in very poor condition and rat-infested which is slowing progress.

The bodies were found in the basement of the apartment building beneath old construction equipment. They had been shot, a source told The Detroit News.

Police had been searching for the three rappers, 38-year-old Armani Kelly, 31-year-old Dante Wicker, and 31-year-old Montoya Givens, after they went missing on January 21.

The three men were scheduled to perform at an event at Lounge 31 on January 21. However, the event was canceled last minute due to an issue with the DJ.

Police became concerned about the whereabouts of the three rappers earlier this week because there had not been any activity on their cell phones since the event.

Authorities are trying to piece together what happened after the canceled event and what led to their murder.

A man claiming to be the brother of one of the rappers told FOX 2 that the scheduled concert had been a “set-up” to target one of the performers. Police have been unable to verify this claim.
