Gino becomes the world's oldest dog at 22 years old, sets Guinness World Record 

A Los Angeles dog has been named the “World’s Oldest” living canine by Guinness World Records. 

Gino, a dog from Los Angeles, was born on September 24, 2000, making him 22 years old. Guinness World Records verified Gino as the world’s oldest living dog on record on November 15. 

Gino was adopted by then-college sophomore Alex Wolf from the Humane Society of Boulder Valley when he was two years old. Wolf and his roommates at the University of Colorado Boulder looked after the puppy. 

“If we were having a later night, he would stay up, and if I was sleeping in, he would sleep in,” Wolf said of their college days. “He was one of the guys.”

Gino would travel with Wolf during summer vacations to visit family in California, where the pup quickly found himself at home. 

“When he was younger, he used to love exploring my parents’ huge backyard with our other dogs in Manhattan Beach, going on walks off the leash in Venice, drives along the coast blasting music with his head out the window, or running around on the golf course in La Quinta,” Wolf told Today.

Wolf believes that Gino’s support system and healthy diet have been crucial to allow him to reach his age. 

“He’s gotten a lot of love, and I think he’s just a strong dog,” Wolf told Today.

Guinness World Records had previously given the title of “World’s Oldest Dog” to Pebbles, a Toy Fox Terrier who was also 22. He peacefully passed away on October 3.
