Kari Lake loses to Democrat Katie Hobbs in Arizona governor election 

Republican Kari Lake was defeated by Democrat Katie Hobbs in Arizona’s governor elections after almost a week of counting ballots since Tuesday’s election, The Associated Press reported on Monday. 

Hobbs, Arizona’s secretary of state, will succeed Republican Governor Doug Ducey, who has reached the limit for his term in office. Hobbs is the first Democrat to be elected governor in Arizona since 2006 when Janet Napolitano became governor. 

Hobbs celebrated her victory with a message on Twitter: “Democracy is worth the wait.”

Lake, on the other hand, said “Arizonans know BS when they see it” after the results were announced almost a week after the election, suggesting that the vote was incorrect.

The vote counting for the Arizona elections took several days due to the massive amounts of late-arriving ballots, the Associated Press added. As a result, Lake claimed that election officials were slow-rolling the vote counting and prioritizing Democratic ballots. 

Additionally, about a third of the vote centers in Maricopa county had issues with the printers, which led to some ballots being rejected and giving rise to doubts about the integrity of the vote. 

After becoming well-known in the state during her two decades as a news anchor in Phoenix, Lake focused her campaign on criticizing mainstream media, which she claims is unfair to Republicans. Lake has also gained a lot of attention after questioning the results of the 2020 election, a claim that gained her the endorsement of Donald Trump.
