More than 64,000 immigrants evaded Border Patrol, 205,000 apprehended in October 

More than 64,000 undocumented immigrants made it across the border without being caught by authorities in October, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources told Fox News. 

CBP data for October shows that there were more than 64,000 “gotaways,” or migrants who are known to have slipped passed border patrol agents and successfully crossed the border undetected.  

The figure is an increase from the monthly average in the Fiscal Year 2022, which recorded around 50,000 “gotaways” a month. October’s numbers mean that almost 2,000 undocumented migrants a day evaded authorities at the border 

Additionally, the data shows that Border Patrol agents apprehended 205,000 undocumented immigrants, an increase compared to the 159,113 apprehended last October and 69,032 in October 2020. 

Authorities believe October’s 205,000 apprehensions might be the highest October number in the history of the Department of Homeland Security. 

The actual number of migrants apprehended at the border in October, however, might actually be higher, according to Fox News. The 205,000 apprehensions by Border Patrol agents do not take into account the migrants encountered by CBP’s Office of Field Operations, which averaged about 15,000 migrants a month in Fiscal Year 2022.
