U.S. gas prices hit another record high

Gas prices in the United States hit a record high on Tuesday as a regular gallon of gasoline now costs $4.52 on average, according to AAA.

Diesel also hit a record high of $5.57 on Tuesday.

Gas prices have been climbing throughout the month of May, setting another record high just last week before it was broken Tuesday.

AAA called the record an "expensive milestone" as gas in every state now costs more than $4 a gallon on average.

"The high cost of oil, the key ingredient in gasoline, is driving these high pump prices for consumers," AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said. "Even the annual seasonal demand dip for gasoline during the lull between spring break and Memorial Day, which would normally help lower prices, is having no effect this year."

Gas is the most expensive in California where prices reached more than $6 a gallon. It is the cheapest in Kansas with a price of slightly more than $4.

Republicans took to Twitter to voice outrage over the increase in costs.

"Gas prices reached another record high today. And you still can’t find baby formula. Joe Biden’s America," Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) tweeted.

"Nothing is built. Nothing is back. Nothing is better," Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) wrote on Twitter.

"Joe Biden does NOT want to lower gas prices, just look at his policies," Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) tweeted.
