A California mom stabbed her family’s pitbulls to save her one-year-old daughter and another family member on Sunday night after the dogs attacked them, reported The New York Post.

Los Angeles deputies responded to a call reporting a dog bite at a home near Homebrook Street and Pico Vista road at around 10:18 p.m. on Sunday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The one-year-old was attacked by the dogs after she started crying in their home. As the mother, Jamie Morales, tried to stop the attack, the dogs attacked her, biting her lip and face. The girl’s grandmother, Margaret Ann Morales, and her other daughter were also injured.

"I walked into the kitchen, and that's when I (saw)...my two daughters and my son on the floor trying to get the dogs off. Finally, my daughter got up...and that's when I (saw) my granddaughter. I (saw) the dog was latched on her left leg. That's when I had to actually get my hand into his jaws and open them up and that's when he released her," said the grandmother.

As the attack continued to attack the family members, the mother grabbed a knife and stabbed the dogs, leading to their death.

"I had to stab the dog. I had to. It was either him or my daughter, and I chose my daughter," the mother told KTLA-TV Channel 5.

The one-year-old and three women are recovering in the hospital. The girl has a fractured hip and bites to her leg, shoulder, and ear.

The dogs had been with the family since they were puppies.
