This Saturday, the Venezuelan opposition denounced attempts by the Maduro regime to block opposition activist Corina Yoris from registering as a presidential candidate for the July 28 presidential elections.

“After about 72 hours of the start of the presidential candidacy nomination process, we denounce that the CNE system has NOT yet granted the validation keys for those responsible for the MUD and UNT cards to nominate our unitary candidate, Corina Yoris,” reported opposition party Voluntad Popular, which is part of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD).

“We ask for maximum attention from public opinion and the international community in the face of this worrying situation, which we hope will be resolved immediately,” the opposition organization added.

The coalition demanded that the laws be followed and reiterated, through several messages posted on social networks, that “nothing and no one” will take them off the electoral route.

In the midst of these events, the president of the National Electoral Council CNE, Elvis Amoroso, offered a press conference where he did not directly address the opposition's complaints, but recalled that the registered people will be investigated as part of the candidacy review process.

The opposition's complaint arises hours after María Corina Machado, who was disqualified from holding political office, gave Yoris the candidacy of the Unitary Platform this Friday during a press conference.

Machado assured that the decision “emerged from the discussion of the unitary forces” and is part of an agreed mechanism to "face this obstacle," in reference to his disqualification.

In this sense, the opponent asserted that the majority opposition will get “the antidote” to “every trap” found on the road to the presidential elections.
