Venezuelan dictatorship announces social media alternative

Venezuelan Dictator Nicolas Maduro announced on Wednesday that his regime would be launching its own social media network. The revelation was made during the streaming of the Productive Wednesdays broadcast which was dedicated to the 6th anniversary of the Local Committees for Supply and Production (CLAP) program.
“I can’t tell you yet, but Venezuela is going to surprise the world with something that we will launch on Friday. The world will be stunned,” Maduro said.
“Venezuela is catching up to the world’s social networks with our own social network. Venezuela will have its own social network for Venezuela and for the world. I’ll say no more. Just wait for its activation and announcement on Friday,” he added.

In recent years, the Venezuelan regime has heavily censored information across all media platforms including all major social media platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Venezuela’s Venezolana de Television – VTVA Cana 8, the main state media channel even had to move its streaming and video to Daily Motion in order to avoid censorship. Other media accounts from the country with significant online followings have been restricted or suspended.
Details about the regime’s new social media platform have yet to be revealed.
