A member of the Vente Venezuela party, led by opposition leader María Corina Machado, was arrested this Saturday by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin), after giving a message of support to the opposition in the state of Portuguesa.

“Sebin forcibly took Óscar Castañeda, from the Vente team in Santa Rosalía, Portuguesa. He arrived in the country 20 days ago, decided to join the party and spoke at María Corina Machado's event,” the Vente Venezuela Human Rights Committee announced on the X social media platform.

Rodolfo Castañeda, a relative of the detainee, assured that the Sebin took Óscar out of his house “with beatings” and “took him to prison.”

The complaining organization also said that the regime’s action is part of the pattern of “persecution” that the dictatorship “has undertaken against those who exercise their civil and political rights in Venezuela.”

“They are no longer only attacking opposition leaders, but also good citizens who want free elections in Venezuela,” the Committee indicated.

During his viral message, Castañeda said that he is a Venezuelan who returned “defeated” to his country “with his family” from Colombia.

“I ask every Venezuelan to raise our hands for all those who died at the border and those who suffered for being Venezuelans in another country. My name is Óscar Castañeda and I put my trust in María Corina Machado,” he told the crowd.

This arrest is in addition to others that include seven Machado based regional campaign leaders who now stand accused of engaging in a conspiracy plans against the communist dictatorship.

The seven regional leaders have continued to accuse the Maduro regime of “political persecution.”
