A video captures the shocking moment a car flew through the air and hit an occupied home in St. Louis, Missouri on Tuesday, killing the driver instantly and nearly missing a three-year-old inside the home.

The crash took place at around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Kingston Drive and Telegraph Road in St. Louis. The 73-year-old woman was traveling southbound on Kingston Drive at an “extremely high rate of speed,” when it veered off the road and hit the embankment, causing it to go airborne, the St. Louis County Police Department said in a statement.

The doorbell camera captured the car flying straight into the home and tearing up a wall before landing upside down among the wreckage.

The 73-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified later by police as St. Louis resident Cheryl Doyon.

"This was not a blatant speeding situation but may have been the result of a medical emergency," said a spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department.

The St. Louis County Police Department said it was investigating the incident to determine what led to the crash.

The owners of the house said the crash almost hit a 3-year-old child, who was sitting on a bed in the bedroom at the time. The impact of the crash pushed the bed into a wall, preventing him from being injured.

"Could've totally hit him, yes. Missed him by inches," the owner of the home Derek Wentzel said, adding that the child belongs to a family friend that was visiting the home.

Two other adults were inside the home at the time of the crash.

Wentzel said he hoped to salvage what was left of his home but is afraid that it might be a total loss.

"I wasn't sure how bad it was and when I got here and saw how bad it was I was like, I guess they'll be staying with us tonight," Wentzel’s mom, Diane said.
