At least 17 children were injured after a tanker collided with a school bus at an intersection in Gilbert, South Carolina, on Thursday, May 25, according to local news reports.
The security camera footage from a local business captured the moment of impact between the two vehicles. Bystanders quickly reacted to the accident and rushed toward the school bus, as shown in the footage.
The school bus was carrying 36 passengers from local schools, as reported by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. At least 17 children and one adult were taken to a nearby hospital in Lexington for treatment of their injuries, local news sources said.
The road where the collision occurred was temporarily closed to the public while emergency crews responded to the scene. However, it has since been reopened, according to officials from Lexington County.
