VIDEO: 10-year old hero rescues his mother during seizure in swimming pool

A 10-year-old boy saved his mother from drowning in a swimming pool while she was having a seizure, and the dramatic footage was captured by a security camera at the family's Oklahoma home.

The incident occurred on August 5 in the town of Kingston, when Lori Keeney and her son Gavin were enjoying a summer morning in the pool at their home, Fox News reported. 

Suddenly, the mother suffered a seizure that prevented her from swimming and staying afloat prompting Gavin to jump into the pool to rescue her.

Gavin told local media that he had just gotten out of the pool when he suddenly saw his mother "struggling in the water." He noticed Keeney was having a seizure, so he quickly jumped in, swam to her, held her head and pulled her toward the ladder, the video shows.

"I saw splashing and heard some kind of screaming. That's when I saw her convulsing, so I went and jumped in and carried her back to the stairs," Gavin adds.

The boy held his mother near the stairs until his grandfather, who lives next door and was alerted by the barking dogs, arrived.

Keeney told local media that she suffers from seizures almost daily and that her son has always helped her, but she had never seen him act during an emergency, which was truly shocking to her.

"Normally I can't see what he does after I have a seizure. This is the first time I can see him thanks to the security cameras. I take so much pride in him, and at the same time, it was heartbreaking to watch," she added.

Gavin was commended by police for his quick response at his young age and is now an honorary member of the Cardinal Cove Volunteer Fire Department. He also received a "Saving a Life" plaque for the rescue.

"He's definitely my hero," the mother said. "I really feel like he's my guardian angel, too."
