Two men on a 30-foot sailboat were rescued on Tuesday after being missing for ten days at sea.

Kevin Hyde, 65, and Joe Ditomasso, 76, were sailing from Cape May, New Jersey to Marathon Florida when they suddenly went off the radar near North Carolina’s Outer Banks on December 3rd.

Hyde, Ditomasso, and their dog “Minnie” were finally located about 200 miles off the coast of Delaware ten days later, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The two men grabbed the attention of a tanking vessel that was nearby by waiving their arms and a red flag at around 4:18 p.m. on Tuesday.

The tanker then brought the men onboard and had them examined by its medical staff, who said there were “no immediate concerns.”

Hyde and Ditomasso will continue their journey onboard the tanker as it makes its way to New York. Once at its destination, the two men will be transferred to a Coast Guard vessel to be further evaluated.

"I can't even express the joy of emotions and just relief," said Ditomasso’s daughter, Natalie.

According to the Coast Guard, the two men’s 30-foot sailboat ran out of fuel and power, leaving them without radios or navigation. The Coast Guard searched for the two men but were unable to find them.

“They were dealing with 9 to 12-foot seas and 25 to 40-knot winds so we knew that’s not good for 30-foot sailboats," a family member said.

"If anybody was going to make it out there it was gonna be him 100%. Part of this is luck, and we’re just thrilled to have him home," Natalie Ditomasso said.

“We are overjoyed with the outcome of the case and look forward to reuniting Mr. Hyde and Mr. DiTomasso with their family and friends,” Cmdr. Daniel Schrader, a spokesman for Coast Guard Atlantic Area, said in a statement.
