Transportation Security Administration officials found a small dog inside of a carry-on suitcase as it went through the X-ray machine at the Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin this week.

"A dog was accidentally sent through the X-ray" the TSA posted on its verified Great Lakes region Twitter account on Tuesday along with a picture of the pet.

“When traveling with any animal, notify your airline & know their rules. At the checkpoint, remove your pet from the bag and send all items, including the empty carrier, to be screened in the machine,” the post continued.

According to TSA spokesperson Jessica Mayle, the small dog, which was a Dachshund Chihuahua mix, was a little “skittish” after passing through the machine. She explained that the traveler was “unaware” of the screening protocol required to pass animals through airport security.

"After (the dog) was discovered by the X-ray operator, the officer explained the proper process to the passenger and confirmed she had disclosed she was traveling with the pet to the airline," Mayle told USA TODAY. "After her bags were cleared, she proceeded to her gate."

To avoid future mishaps with pets, the TSA Great Lakes account posted a video showing the flyers the proper way to travel with their pets and how to pass through security with their furry friends.

“Here’s the proper way to travel with your pet. Note: This is a @TSA PreCheck passenger traveling with a cat. If you think your pet will attempt an escape, ask to speak with a supervisor before removing the animal. Alternative screening options may be available,” the post says.

The latest discovery comes after TSA officers found a live cat inside of a suitcase at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The orange cat had made its way into the suitcase while the suitcase’s owner was completely unaware.
