An airplane taking former U.S. President Donald Trump to his Florida residence had to make an emergency landing at a Louisiana airport last weekend after suffering engine failure over the Gulf of Mexico, media reported.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, when a technical failure in one of the four turbines of the private aircraft forced the former president to return to New Orleans International Airport.

The turbine began to fail approximately 75 miles after takeoff, according to media reports. Trump was traveling with a donor after wrapping up a Republican National Committee (RNC) meeting in New Orleans.

Media outlet EFE consulted with two RNC spokespersons, but they did not add further information.

The former president was in New Orleans to speak to major Republican donors during a private RNC fundraiser at the Four Sessions Hotel, where he gave a roughly 90-minute speech in which he again hinted at his possible 2024 candidacy.

RNC members were able to secure through a donor another plane for Trump, who finally arrived at 3:00 a.m. Sunday in Palm Beach, South Florida, where his Mar-a-Lago residence is located.

No injuries were reported.
