The search continues for an inmate who escaped from the Lauderdale County Jail and the Alabama law enforcement officer who allegedly helped him escape last Friday.

Lauderdale County's deputy corrections director, Vicky White, is wanted on charges of allowing and facilitating the escape of a first-degree inmate. Her colleagues still can't understand how an officer who is already in retirement with a "spotless record" is now the subject of an arrest warrant, CNN reported.

The officer was last seen Friday leaving the detention center with inmate Casey White, 38, handcuffed and shackled in her patrol car.

According to Sheriff Rick Singleton, Vicky took Casey for a supposed mental health evaluation and then to a doctor because he was not feeling well. However, authorities discovered that the inmate did not have a scheduled evaluation and that the officer never attended a medical facility.

Friday was Vicky's last day of work after nearly two decades with the Department, Singleton continued. She filed her retirement paperwork last week and planned to move to the beach.

"All of her co-workers are devastated. We've never had a situation like this with Vicky White. She was a model employee," Singleton told CNN's Ryan Young.

"If she did this voluntarily, and all indications are that she did... I guess we're trying to hold on to the last drop of hope that maybe she was threatened and did this under coercion, but you would absolutely feel betrayed," he added.

Armed and dangerous

The search and seizure warrant describes both as potentially dangerous and armed. The escaped inmate was awaiting trial on a capital murder case, which can be punishable by life imprisonment or death, although he was already serving time for another case, reports WVTM 13 Digital.

Since their disappearance, there has been speculation that Vicky and Casey were romantically involved.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the capture of Casey White and Vicki White.

Casey White’s Sentence

Casey White was being held in the Lauderdale County Jail after allegedly confessing in 2020 to killing a woman in Rogersville, Alabama, in 2015. White pleaded not guilty to capital murder and was being held in jail awaiting trial.

In 2019, White was sentenced to 75 years in state prison for a series of crimes in Limestone County, including kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery, and burglary. In addition, he attempted to shoot his ex-girlfriend and took her roommates hostage in 2015.

In 2020, Sheriff Singleton claimed that authorities uncovered an alleged plot by White to take a hostage and escape from jail. After discovering his plan, Singleton revealed that a policy was implemented requiring two sworn deputies to be with him at all times, including during transport to court.
