Chicago man wins third largest lottery in history: 1.28 billion on Mega Millions ticket

The $1.28 billion Mega Millions jackpot fell into the hands of a single person from Chicago. It is the third largest prize in U.S. lottery history, a national event that triggered a 35% increase in lottery ticket sales.

The identity of the winner has not yet been confirmed. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 303 million.

The winning ticket was sold at the Speedy Café Speedway gas station on E. Touhy Avenue in Des Plaines, Fox Business reports. The Des Plaines suburb is located just north of O'Hare International Airport.

Friday's winning numbers were 67, 45, 57, 36, and 13. The Mega Millions ball number was 14, and the winner was able to beat the odds of 1 in 303 million.

The unknown winner of Friday's jackpot will have the option to receive the $1.28 billion over 29 years or opt for a lump sum of $747.2 million in cash.
