The chief of the U.S. Border Patrol said that agents caught ten undocumented immigrant sex offenders in three days, in addition to several gang members and other convicted criminals.

"The dangers are real," Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz said in a tweet on Tuesday. "Great work by our agents."

According to the Border Patrol Chief’s recap of the week, agents encountered 2,690 migrants, many of which were part of 10 large groups.

Among the migrants intercepted, 10 of them were sex offenders, four were gang members, and one was a murderer. Additionally, CBP agents seized 100 fentanyl pills and 71 pounds of methamphetamine.

Additionally, Border Patrol agents rescued 91 migrants along the border.

Last week, Border Patrol agents apprehended more than two dozen gang members and criminals, including sex offenders, who were attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. One Mexican national had a prior conviction for indecency and sexual contact with a child. Similarly, a Guatemalan that was stopped near Sarita, Texas had an outstanding warrant in Houston for indecency with a child.

The apprehension of the migrants comes as Border Patrol agents have encountered an unprecedented number of migrants attempting to cross the southern border. CBP data shows that more than 1.8 million individuals have been intercepted at the border, four times more than those intercepted in 2020.
