U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered a group of 100 migrants on Tuesday in California.

The San Diego Sector agents intercepted the group about half a mile east of the Border Field State Park in San Diego at around 2:00 a.m. local time, according to a press release by the agency.

The agency added that the group consisted of migrants coming from South America, Africa, and Asia. The CPB listed their nationalities as follows: Somalia (37), India (17), Cameroon (8), Senegal (7), Mauritania (7), Afghanistan (6), Ethiopia (6), Pakistan (4), Burkina, Faso (3), Brazil (3), Guinea (1), Tobago (1).

Of the migrants traveling in the group, 79 were adults, 18 individuals traveling as families, and 3 unaccompanied minors.

Officials said that most of the migrants intercepted did not speak Spanish and required additional translation support.

The apprehension of the migrants comes as Border Patrol agents have encountered an unprecedented number of migrants at the southern border.

The number of migrant apprehensions so far in this fiscal year already exceeds the total of the previous fiscal year and has set record-breaking numbers. Since October, more than 1.8 million individuals have attempted to cross the border, four times more than those who were intercepted at the border in 2020.
