The bodies of two 13-year-old Honduran twins were found this week off the Gulf of Mexico coast in Galveston, Texas where they spent the previous Sunday with their parents, whom they had not seen for ten years.

The parents brought their sons, Jefferson and Josue, from Honduras to Houston last November after 10 years without seeing them, and last Sunday they decided to take a trip to Galveston.

The twins, who were inseparable, were swimming in the Gulf when they suddenly disappeared from their family's sight, said Melvin, the children's father.

Beach patrollers were immediately called, as well as rescue teams in the city of Galveston, but the news was not encouraging.

According to Telemundo 51's report, the first body was found by a passerby on one of Galveston's beaches on Tuesday, and the second was found on Thursday.

The children's families have been notified, according to the Galveston County Medical Examiner.

The gulf waters in that area are traversed by strong rip currents, which is a powerful surface current of water, flowing back from the shore out to sea, and this can be lethal to people in the water.

Finally, the report explains that the authorities will be assigning more lifeguards to care for bathers in these areas due to the spring vacations.

Months earlier, in September 2022, a 6-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Lake Erie, East Harbor State Park, Ohio.

Witnesses to the incident attempted to revive the boy by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but were unsuccessful.
