Police shot a woman who started shooting towards the ceiling at Dallas Love Field Airport on Monday morning, leaving travelers looking for safety and halting flights for several hours.

The woman, identified by police as Portia Odufuwa, 37, was dropped off at the airport a little before 11 a.m. on Monday. Once inside the airport, she headed to the bathrooms and changed her clothes, said Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia.

She left the bathroom wearing a hoody, pulled out a gun, and fired several shots, most of which appeared to have been directed towards the ceiling.

"At this point, we don't know where exactly the individual was aiming. From what we are seeing she was aiming at the ceiling," Garcia said. "There are several rounds that were found."

Officers confronted Odufuwa at around 11:23 a.m. and shot her in her lower extremity. She was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Several travelers recorded and shared videos of what was going on inside of the airport during the shooting. The videos show travelers seeking cover behind chairs and tables as the shooting goes on.

Colby James, a witness that was standing next to Odufuwa when she pulled out a gun, told NBC 5 that the woman said she had an announcement to make and proceeded to talk about her husband’s cheating.

"She basically said her announcement, talking about her husband was cheating or something. And she basically said she was about to blow this sucker up. After she said that she pulled out a gun. She fired the first shot in the air and basically, everybody scattered," James said. "We were running. There were 10-12 more shots after that."

As a result of the shooting, all inbound flights to Dallas Live Field were held at their departure points until about 2:30 p.m. All of the airport operations were also paused until around 3:45 p.m.

Many passengers were moved out of the terminal while the police continued their investigation. Travelers shared videos of the congested scenes outside of the airport, in the ticketing area, and at baggage claim.
