A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with fatally running over a 10-year-old boy in Harris County, Texas.

Alex Tuan Vuong faces a second-degree felony charge for failing to stop and help the victim in a crash that occurred on July 4 in a Grand Oaks neighborhood.

Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the intersection of Windy Stone and Concord around 11:00 p.m. about an unconscious child on the street.

The victim was airlifted to Memorial Hermann, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Witnesses claimed that the boy was riding a bicycle in the street when Vuong allegedly hit him with a truck and fled.

It is not clear when the accident occurred because the child was supposedly being supervised while on the street, and it is not known what happened to the bicycle since it was not at the scene when authorities arrived.

Investigators indicated that the child was dragged under the truck for about half a mile, where the body was recovered.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the vehicle was recovered during the arrest. Vuong was booked into the Harris County Jail.

According to court records, Vuong has been charged in the past with manufacturing and/or distribution of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
