A viral video shows the moment a pilot ejects from a jet as it crash lands at a military base in Texas on Thursday.

The video shows the Lockheed Martin F-35B jet hovering above the runway near the Fort Worth Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base near White Settlement as it slowly descends for landing.

However, as soon as the front wheels touch the ground, the plane loses control, smashing its nose into the ground, the video shows. The plane turns clockwise and then back again before there is a flash and smoke.

"It started off cool. It was hovering down and then it bounced. Lost balance, I guess. And nosedive continued to keep the nose on the ground," Kitt Wilder, who recorded the video, told WFAA.

The pilot is then shot up into the sky, eventually seen floating down as he lands with his parachute.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene. Authorities confirmed that the pilot was ejected from the aircraft. His condition is unknown.

"We love having the base here in our community. We love the fact that Lockheed Martin and the economic impact that it does for our North Texas region," said White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook. "Any time you get a call like that, you know, your heart kind of sinks. You want to get here as fast as you can. We didn't notice any smoke, anything like that as we arrived on scene."

“We are aware of the F-35B crash on the shared runway at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth and understand that the pilot ejected successfully. Safety is our priority, and we will follow appropriate investigation protocol,” Lockheed Martin said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating why the pilot crashed.
