Houston-area officials determined on Saturday that the remains found in a Dec. 2021 search belong to Taylor Pomaski, the missing girlfriend of former NFL player Kevin Ware.

“The investigation is still open and active and homicide investigators are diligent on bringing this case to a close,” Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Senior Deputy, wrote in an email to NBC.

Pomaski had been living with Ware, a former tight for the San Francisco 49ers, when she was reported missing.

The 29-year-old woman was last seen on Apr. 25, 2021, at a party in her home in Spring, Texas. Her family reported her missing on May 11, saying she may be the victim of foul play.

"It kind of hit us early in the day. We haven't heard from her in a week and a half, two weeks at this point," her father told ABC-13 about how he and his wife became concerned when Taylor failed to call on Mother’s Day.

Her remains were discovered in December in north Harris County. No suspects have been named or arrested in connection to Pomaski’s case.

Ware has been in custody for 10 months for violating conditions of bond in a case involving drug and weapons charges unrelated to the disappearance, according to KPRC of Houston. He is being held without bail but has not been officially charged or named as a suspect in his girlfriend’s disappearance.

His attorney, Coby DuBose, said the former athlete has been cooperating with authorities.

“He’s told the police everything that he knows and he’s led them through his house. He’s let them in his home, and that’s really all we’re going to say about that,” DuBose said, according to the New York Post.
